Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. "Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people."

Allah never asks a soul for more than it can carry. The ayah ends with the dua: do not place on us a burden we have no strength to bear.

Wasta'eenoo bissabri was Salaah; wa innahaa lakabeeratun illaa alal khaashi'een

And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah]

Seek help through patience and prayer. It is hard, except for the humble.

Wa law laaa iz dakhalta jannataka qulta maa shaaa'al laahu laa quwwata illaa billaah; in tarani ana aqalla minka maalanw wa waladaa

And why did you, when you entered your garden, not say, 'What Allah willed [has occurred]; there is no power except in Allah '? Although you see me less than you in wealth and children,

Ma sha Allah, la quwwata illa billah: the believing man tells the proud owner of the garden that all strength is Allah's.

Allah is the one who created you from weakness, then made after weakness strength, then made after strength weakness and white hair. He creates what He wills, and He is the Knowing, the Competent.

Weakness, then strength, then weakness and grey hair. Our strength is lent to us for a time.

And Allah wants to lighten for you [your difficulties]; and mankind was created weak.

Allah wants to make things lighter for you, for man was created weak.

Wa atee'ul laaha wa Rasoolahoo wa laa tanaaza'oo fatafshaloo wa tazhaba reehukum wasbiroo; innal laaha ma'as saabireen

And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.

Quarrelling drains strength: obey Allah and His Messenger, do not dispute, and be patient.

And O my people, ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers and increase you in strength [added] to your strength. And do not turn away, [being] criminals."

Hud to his people: ask forgiveness and repent, and He will add strength to your strength.

Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanooo in tansurul laaha yansurkum wa yusabbit aqdaamakum

O you who have believed, if you support Allah, He will support you and plant firmly your feet.

If you support Allah's cause, He will support you and make your feet firm.

249 And when Saul went forth with the soldiers, he said, "Indeed, Allah will be testing you with a river. So whoever drinks from it is not of me, and whoever does not taste it is indeed of me, excepting one who takes [from it] in the hollow of his hand." But they drank from it, except a [very] few of them. Then when he had crossed it along with those who believed with him, they said, "There is no power for us today against Goliath and his soldiers." But those who were certain that they would meet Allah said, "How many a small company has overcome a large company by permission of Allah. And Allah is with the patient." 250 And when they went forth to [face] Goliath and his soldiers, they said, "Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people."

Talut's small army: how often a small group has beaten a large one by Allah's permission. Their dua: pour patience on us and make our feet firm.

146 And how many a prophet [fought and] with him fought many religious scholars. But they never lost assurance due to what afflicted them in the cause of Allah, nor did they weaken or submit. And Allah loves the steadfast. 147 And their words were not but that they said, "Our Lord, forgive us our sins and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people."

Prophets and their followers did not weaken or give in. Their only words were a dua for forgiveness and firm feet.

25 [Moses] said, "My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance] 26 And ease for me my task 27 And untie the knot from my tongue 28 That they may understand my speech.

Musa, sent to Pharaoh, asked for strength inside: expand my chest, ease my task, untie my tongue.

One of the women said, "O my father, hire him. Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy."

The best one to hire is the strong and the trustworthy, said by a daughter of the old man of Madyan about Musa.

Indeed, those who have said, "Our Lord is Allah " and then remained on a right course - the angels will descend upon them, [saying], "Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised.

Those who say "our Lord is Allah" and stay firm: the angels come down to them, saying do not fear and do not grieve.

Guide

About these verses, and how to use them

The Quran is honest about weakness: we were created weak (4:28), our strength comes and goes with age (30:54), and all strength belongs to Allah (18:39). But it also shows where strength comes from: patience and prayer (2:45), repentance (11:52), unity (8:46) and standing for Allah's cause (47:7). Allah never places on a soul more than it can carry (2:286). The prophets show the way, asking Allah for firm feet and an open chest before hard tasks. These are the main verses on strength, each with its context.

Strength in the Sunnah

The Prophet ﷺ said the strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, though there is good in both, and told us to be keen on what benefits us, seek Allah's help and not give up (Sahih Muslim 2664). He also said the strong man is not the one who wins at wrestling, but the one who controls himself when angry (Sahih al-Bukhari 6114, Sahih Muslim 2609). For the words that remind you where strength comes from, see la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah and Rabbish rahli sadri, and for heavy days the dua for anxiety.
