Guide
Arabic quotes from the Quran, and how to share them well
These are short ayat, or the best known part of an ayah, that people love to write, share and memorise. Each one is shown in the Arabic of the Madinah mushaf (the Uthmani script from the Tanzil project), with a transliteration and the Sahih International translation. Nothing here is typed from memory: the Arabic is copied from the text itself, so every vowel mark is as it is in the mushaf.
Quoting part of an ayah
Many favourite "Quran quotes" are only part of an ayah. "Allah is with the patient" ends 2:153, and "I will surely increase you" sits in the middle of 14:7, whose next words are a warning. Where a card shows part of an ayah it says so, and the reference opens the full ayah with the ones around it. Read it once in full before you share it, so the meaning stays in its context.
Reading the transliteration
The transliteration helps you say the Arabic if you cannot yet read it. Double vowels are long (aa, ee, oo), and an apostrophe marks the letter ayn or a hamzah. It follows how the words are recited, so letters can join across words, as in "Rabbukumud 'ooneee" for Rabbukum, ud'uni. It is a bridge, not a replacement: the sounds of letters such as ح, ع and ق need a teacher. Our Noorani Qaida and Arabic alphabet pages are a good start.
Treating the Quran's words with respect
Scholars allow writing ayat on images for reminders and teaching. Use them where they will be read, not where they will be thrown away or stepped on, and some scholars dislike using ayat only as decoration.
To hear any of these ayat recited, open its reference, or use the Quran recitation tool to repeat it until you have memorised it. For quotes from the hadith as well, see Islamic quotes.
