Guide
Reading the Quran, with transliteration.
Transliteration writes the Arabic sounds in English letters. It helps you follow along and start reciting, but it cannot show every Arabic sound: ح and ه, or ص and س, look almost the same in English letters. Use it with the audio, and move on to reading the Arabic itself. The Arabic alphabet and Noorani Qaida will get you there.
Touching the mushaf and reading on a screen
Touching a printed mushaf requires wudu. Reading from a phone or computer screen does not, because you are not touching the Quran itself. Reciting from memory without wudu is allowed, but not in janabah or during menstruation.
Other madhhabs
- Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali
- Agree that touching the mushaf needs wudu. Most contemporary scholars of these schools also allow reading on a screen without it.
The Arabic is the Uthmani text from Tanzil. The transliteration follows the Tanzil scheme.
