      Guide

How to plan Ramadan, a simple routine that lasts 30 days

A good Ramadan plan is small enough to keep on the tired days. Set a few daily goals you will not drop, a Quran target you can meet in short sittings, and a list of duas to make before iftar. The planner above does the arithmetic and remembers your ticks, so all you have to do is tap.

      Start with the obligations

The fast and the five prayers come first. Everything else is built around them. Taraweeh, Quran, adhkar and charity are the extras that fill the month, and the Prophet ﷺ said the deeds most loved by Allah are those done regularly, even if they are small.1

How the Quran khatam split works

The planner uses the standard 604-page Madani mushaf, the one most printed copies and apps follow, where each juz is about 20 pages. For one khatam in 30 days you read 20 or 20 pages a day: about 4 pages after each of the five prayers. Two khatams is about 40 pages a day, or 8 after each salah. Three khatams is about 60 a day, or 12 after each salah. Reading one page carefully takes most people two to three minutes, so 4 pages after each prayer is about ten minutes.

If Ramadan has 29 days, a 30-day plan leaves the last day's pages unread, so choose 29 days to be safe. Many people like to finish before the 27th night, or before the last ten so those nights are free for prayer and dua.

Reading the Quran during a period

      Hanafi position

A woman in her period, or anyone in a state of major impurity, does not recite the Quran or touch the mushaf without a separate cover. She can listen to recitation, read a translation, and make dhikr and dua, including Quranic duas said with the intention of dua rather than recitation. So pause the page plan on those days and keep the dua and dhikr goals. Missed pages can be made up after the period ends.

      Other madhhabs
      Shafi'i, Hanbali
The same in substance: no recitation with the intention of reading Quran, and no touching the mushaf. Dhikr and dua are allowed.
      Maliki
A woman in her period may recite from memory, because the period lasts days and she could forget what she has learnt. She still does not touch the mushaf.

      Dua and charity

Write your dua list before Ramadan starts, then read it in the time before iftar and in the last third of the night. In the last ten nights, add the dua the Prophet ﷺ taught for Laylat al-Qadr. For charity, many people give a small amount every night of the last ten, so that one of their gifts falls on Laylat al-Qadr. The charity log counts how many of the last ten days you have given on. Zakat is separate: work it out with the zakat calculator and set aside zakat al-fitr before Eid.

      Printing the planner

Tap Print one-page sheet. You get one page with all 30 days, your Quran pages for each day, a box for every goal (ticked if you ticked it here), your dua list and your charity total. Print it before Ramadan and stick it on the fridge, or save it as a PDF.

      2. Al-Marghinani, al-Hidayah, Kitab al-Taharah, Bab al-Hayd; Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar, on reciting verses with the intention of dua. The other madhhabs' positions are summarised from their standard manuals.

      Questions

      Good to know

How many pages of the Quran a day to finish in Ramadan?

With the 604-page mushaf, 20 or 20 pages a day finishes it in 30 days. That is about 4 pages after each of the five prayers.

How do I finish the Quran 3 times in Ramadan?

Read about 60 pages a day, roughly 12 after each salah, which is three juz a day. Choose 3 khatams in the planner to see your exact pages for each day.

How many pages is the Quran?

The standard Madani mushaf has 604 pages, with 20 pages in most juz. Other prints, such as the 15-line Indo-Pak mushaf, have a different page count, but one juz a day still finishes the Quran in 30 days.

What should I plan for Ramadan?

The fast and the five prayers, then a daily Quran target, taraweeh, morning and evening adhkar, dua before iftar, some charity each day and a plan for the last ten nights.

Can I print this Ramadan planner?

Yes. Tap Print one-page sheet to print or save a PDF with all 30 days, your Quran pages, goal boxes, dua list and charity total.
