The 114 surahs, at a glance.

The Quran has 114 surahs. Of these, 86 are Makki, revealed before the Hijrah, and 28 are Madani, revealed after it, according to the Tanzil data used here. A few surahs have a known difference among scholars over where they were revealed, so other lists may differ by one or two. The surahs are not in the order of revelation: Al-Fatiha comes first and the long surahs follow, while the first revelation was the opening of Al-Alaq (96).

Many surahs have more than one name. Al-Isra is also Bani Israil, Ghafir is also Al-Mumin, Fussilat is also Ha Mim As-Sajdah, and Al-Insan is also Ad-Dahr. Spellings vary too, because Arabic is written in English letters in different ways: Ya-Sin, Yasin and Yaseen are the same surah.
