Meaning and lessons
Allah says that he, Isa son of Maryam, is a sign of the Hour, so do not doubt it, and follow Me: this is a straight path. Ibn Kathir explains that the strongest view is that this refers to Isa's descent before the Day of Resurrection, and he notes the reading "wa innahu la-alamun", a sign. The hadith about his return are mass-transmitted: "The son of Maryam will soon descend among you as a just ruler..." (Sahih al-Bukhari 3448).
He also mentions the view that the pronoun refers to the Quran, which gives knowledge of the Hour, and the view that it refers to Isa's miracles, such as bringing the dead to life by Allah's permission.
